Preparing your HVAC Unit for Spring

The official start of spring is just days away, and that means it’s time for spring cleaning and preparations for a new season. Part of prepping your home for the spring season should include preparing your HVAC unit for the warmer weather. This will ensure that your unit is working at the highest efficiency possible. Follow these simple tips to get your HVAC unit ready to go for the spring.

  • Clean your Outdoor Unit: Now that it’s nice enough to get outside and work in the yard, take the time to look at your outdoor unit and check for any debris or foliage that may be getting in the way. If you notice anything that could be preventing your unit from doing its job, clear it out of the way to prevent any damage.
  • Change your Air Filter: One of the easiest ways to keep your HVAC system working efficiently is changing your air filter regularly. This is often an easy chore to forget, so while you’re in the middle of spring cleaning, take the time to take out your old filter and replace it with a new one.
  • Check the Ductwork: The start of a new season it a great time to take on home repairs and projects. One item that you could add to your list is having your HVAC service specialist come out and check your ductwork. Even if there is only a minor problem or no problem found, preventative maintenance can improve the life-span of your unit and prevent any major issues from arising.
  • Upgrade your Thermostat: If your thermostat has not been replaced in a while, use the start of a new season as a reason to install a new one. Updating your thermostat to one that can be programmed will help you keep utility costs down and let your HVAC unit run most efficiently, extending its life-span.
