Tips to Help You Prepare For Winter

Tips to Help You Prepare For Winter

It’s November, which means cold weather will soon hit. Heated air will soon be circulating throughout your home and you should be prepared. Automatic Air has tips for you and how you can get your furnace ready for winter.

While it’s always a great idea to have your furnace thoroughly serviced each year, there are some things you can do yourself. But, get ready to do some dirty work.

Here are 4 maintenance items you can take care of on your own:

Change your furnace filter– You might have changed it last year or you may not have. Either way a new filter is a lot cheaper than a new furnace. Some filters should be changed every 60-90 days. Some you only have to change bi-annually or yearly. Take precautions and stay up to date with your filter changing so your furnace doesn’t break when you need it most.

Buy a carbon monoxide detector-A defective or dirty furnace could potentially leak carbon monoxide, so be safe and installa CO detector within 15 feet the furnace. Carbon monoxide is odorless, colorless, tasteless and invisible and it’s very dangerous.

Vacuum– Vacuum the room/area where your furnace is stored. Gently vacuum around the electrical connections and the floor around it to keep the dust out of site. This will prevent dust from getting stirred into the furnace.

Smell around– Get your nose down and dirty. You could possibly smell rotten eggs, or a musty or grimy smell, and all of those could mean something. If you can detect a smell that’s out of the ordinary, call Automatic Air. You might save yourself a lot of trouble.

Once you have done all of those you should also make an appointment for your annual Precision tune-up! Call Automatic Air at 502-805-1790.
